Fire Fuels Management

San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) Right-of-Way Wildfire Fuels Management Program, San Diego County, CA

ACS served as an implementation subcontracting partner to support this SDG&E pilot program to address fire fuels risks along public utility right-of-way areas. ACS teams worked in native habitat areas to reduce overall native woody vegetation to ~30% cover, breaking up dense stands of vegetation, creating open space, and reducing ladder fuel loads.

Vegetation Management in Support of Fire Management Plan Implementation and Fuel Reduction

ACS addressed immediate fire risks at multiple Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) properties that were subject to Endangered Species Act (ESA) consultation and NEPA (National Environmental Policy Act) analysis. ACS crews helped reduce fire fuel load at areas of high fire concern due to their proximity to housing, recreation, and sensitive habitat areas. A combination of manual removal of dead and non-native vegetation, trimming of native trees and shrubs, and control of non-native plant species were performed.
